124-Year-Old Woman Shares Secrets to Longevity: Walks, Special Porridge and Early Bedtime

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): In today's world, various lifestyle challenges can shorten our lifespan yet some factors like our daily habits remain within our control. One remarkable example is Qiu Chaishi, a 124-year-old woman from Nanchong city in China's Sichuan province, who turned 124 on January 1, 2025. Born in 1901 during the Qing dynasty, Qiu's life spans six generations of her family. She attributes her longevity to simple yet effective habits: eating three meals daily on a strict schedule, taking regular walks after meals, and going to bed early at around 8 p.m. Despite age-related declines in vision and hearing, Qiu remains independent, combing her hair, feeding geese, and climbing stairs on her own.

Qiu’s diet reflects a blend of tradition and moderation. While she enjoys lard rice, she consumes it sparingly due to medical advice. Her daily diet includes a unique porridge made from pumpkin, winter melon, and crushed corn, topped with a spoonful of lard. Her active lifestyle and positive outlook on life seem to play pivotal roles in her remarkable health and vitality. Even at her age, she approaches household chores with ease and maintains a sharp mind.

Her life story is one of resilience and determination. Having lost her husband in her 40s, she raised four children single-handedly while managing tough farm work and financial challenges. Later, she endured the grief of losing her eldest son and supported her granddaughter through hardships. Today, she lives in a three-story rural house with her granddaughter, who admires her grandmother's ability to remain optimistic and bounce back from every setback with laughter and positivity. Qiu’s strength and cheerful disposition continue to inspire those around her.
