Zelensky Changes Stance in London, Thanks Trump for His Support
London (The Uttam Hindu): Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has recently shown an unexpected change in his statements. A few hours after a heated debate with US President Donald Trump at the White House, Zelensky's attitude surprisingly softened upon arriving in London. He not only appreciated American support, but also expressed gratitude to President Trump, who seemed critical earlier.
Addressing a public event in London, President Zelenskyy said, "We are extremely grateful for all kinds of support provided by the US. I especially thank President Trump, the US Congress and the American people, especially during these last three years when we have been facing Russia's full-scale war." This unexpected change of Zelenskyy is widely seen as a diplomatic maneuver.
This statement is particularly important after the bitter spat he had with Trump at the White House. In recent times, there have been reports of escalation of tensions between Trump and Zelensky over the issue of US aid to Ukraine. However, in this latest statement made in London, the Ukrainian president publicly expressed his gratitude for his support, which indicates a possible improvement in relations.
In his statement, Zelensky further stressed, "Our relations with the US President are not just a matter between two leaders, but it is a historical and strong relationship between two countries. That is why I always express my gratitude to the American people."
Underlining the importance of human rights and bilateral cooperation, Zelensky also said that Ukraine values strong relations with the United States and hopes these ties will become even stronger in the future.
Before meeting with Trump, President Zelensky also visited Ukraine House in Washington DC, where he met members of the Ukrainian community living in the US. Speaking to the Ukrainian community on this occasion, he said that it is important to ensure that Ukraine's conflict is highlighted globally and the world remembers it not only during the war but also after it.
Zelensky further said that it is important for the Ukrainian people to realize that they are not alone in this crisis. He stressed that it is necessary that Ukraine's interests be represented in every country and in every corner of the world. Earlier, he also expressed gratitude through a post on 'X' (formerly Twitter) for the support given by the US government and citizens.
This changed tone by Zelensky is being seen as an important step towards easing relations with the US and strengthening Western support for Ukraine.
