Punjab Govt to Provide ₹20,000 Financial Aid to Eligible Families – Here’s How to Apply

Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Under the National Family Benefit Scheme launched by the Punjab Government to help poor families, a one-time financial assistance of Rs. 20,000 is given to the family in case of the death of the earning head of the family. Sharing more information in this regard, Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljeet Kaur said that in case of any type of death (natural or other causes), poor families can avail the benefits of this scheme, if they fulfill the prescribed eligibility criteria. She informed that any woman in the family, who is the source of income of the house, will also be considered as the earning head of the house and this assistance will also be provided to her family.

Under this scheme, the term family will include husband-wife, minor children, unmarried girls and dependent parents. If an unmarried person dies, then this assistance will be given to the younger brother/sister or dependent parents in his family. It is also worth mentioning that the earning head should die at the age of more than 18 years and less than 60 years. Apart from this, financial assistance will be given in every case of death of the deceased earning head.

He also said that the families which fall below poverty line as per Census 2011 and fall under Socio-economic Caste classification can avail the benefits of this scheme. The Minister finally said that this scheme is another important step towards social welfare of Punjab Government and eligible persons can contact their District Social Security Officer to avail the benefits.
