Punjab Government Cracks Down on Drug Trade, Smugglers Given Final Warning
Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): The Punjab government is taking strict action against drug smugglers every day. In this connection, a high-level meeting was held today under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
Addressing a press conference organized after the meeting, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, Punjab AAP President Aman Arora instructed the drug smugglers to either leave Punjab or leave the drug business. The families of the smugglers were also told to remove them from this path for the welfare of their children and society. As per the strategy made in the meeting, Punjab will be made drug free in 3 months. He said that Aam Aadmi Party has started a campaign to make Punjab Rangla.
Aman Arora said that the Aam Aadmi Party government was formed 3 years ago. In the last three years, a big campaign was going on against drugs. The facts of that campaign speak for themselves – in three years, 6500 big drug smugglers have been caught and 30 thousand NDPS cases have been registered.
In the last 3 years, property worth Rs 612 crore belonging to smugglers has been seized, while during the Congress government, property worth Rs 142 crore was seized. The pace of heroin seizure has also increased; 1128 kg heroin has been seized. The conviction rate in NDPS cases in Punjab has been 86 percent. It is worth mentioning that the Mann government is constantly tightening the noose on drug smugglers and recently a bulldozer has also been used on the properties of drug smugglers
