Pakistan’s Nefarious Move: Denies Kulbhushan Jadhav Right to Appeal in Top Court
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Pakistan has once again shown its double standards and has clearly refused to give the right of appeal to Indian citizen Kulbhushan Jadhav. Pakistan's Defense Ministry has argued in the Supreme Court that the International Court of Justice (ICJ) had only ordered to give consular access and not to allow the appeal.
Pakistan's nefarious act, denied Kulbhushan Jadhav the right to appeal; gave this argument in the Supreme Court: This statement came at a time when the Supreme Court of Pakistan was hearing the cases of the culprits of the violence of 9 May 2023. During the hearing, the question arose that the accused who were convicted by the military court did not get the right to appeal, while why was Kulbhushan Jadhav given this facility. On this, the Ministry of Defense responded that Jadhav has only got consular access, no right to appeal.
It is worth mentioning that Kulbhushan Jadhav is a retired officer of the Indian Navy, who was doing business in Chabahar, Iran. In March 2016, Pakistan allegedly kidnapped him from Iran and sentenced him to death through a military court, terming him an Indian spy.
India challenged this decision on the international platform and in 2017 the case reached the International Court of Justice in Hague. ICJ ruled in India's favour and stayed Jadhav's sentence and directed Pakistan to give him consular access and conduct a fair review of the decision. But now this argument given by Pakistan in the Supreme Court clearly shows that it is disregarding international rules and adopting an unjust attitude towards the citizen of India.
