'Not even a drop of water for Pakistan': India’s Bold Move Post-Indus Treaty Suspension
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): After the terrorist attack in Baisaran Valley in Pahalgam on April 22, India has taken several strict steps against Pakistan. This strict step also includes stopping the Indus River Water Treaty. Due to this, there is a possibility of water shortage in Pakistan in summer. On the other hand, after stopping the Indus Water Treaty, India is working on three big projects. Water Power Minister CR Patil himself has given information about this.
According to the report, Union Water Power Minister CR Patil has said that India is working to not give even a drop of water to Pakistan. He told that for this the government is working on three plans. A long-term plan, a short-term plan and a medium-term plan. These plans will ensure that there is no supply of water to Pakistan. Earlier, a meeting was held at the house of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. In this meeting, the Indus Water Treaty of 1960 with Pakistan was discussed. After the terrorist attack in Pulwama, India has stopped this treaty for the time being. This meeting was about what to do next. According to government sources, many suggestions were given in the meeting. The ministers discussed many aspects among themselves. Sources also said that India is ready to face every challenge. This includes legal challenges as well. Sources said, 'If Pakistan goes to the World Bank, India has prepared its response and will respond effectively.'
What were the arguments given for stopping the Indus Treaty?
After this, India's Water Resources Secretary Debashree Mukherjee wrote a letter to her Pakistani counterpart Syed Ali Murtaza. She wrote that Pakistan's continuous spread of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir is hampering India's rights under the Indus Water Treaty. The letter said, 'Faithful compliance of any treaty is the basic foundation of that treaty. But, we have seen the opposite. Pakistan is continuously spreading terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.'
