Dubai (The Uttam Hindu)- Virat Kohli on Sunday surpassed Mohammad Azharuddin's record of taking the most catches as a fielder in ODIs for India by taking 158 catches in the Champions Trophy 2025 Group A match against Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium. Virat also completed 14 thousand ODI runs while chasing the target.

The 36-year-old Kohli made this record by catching Naseem Shah off Kuldeep Yadav's bowling in the 47th over. He further improved his record by catching Khushdil Shah in the last over. Mohammad Azharuddin (156), Sachin Tendulkar (140), Rahul Dravid (124) and Suresh Raina (102) are the other players in this list. Kohli, who is also the third-highest run-scorer in the format after Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara, reached the milestone of 14,000 ODI runs. Kohli pushed Haris Rauf's ball to the left of mid-off for four and completed 14,000 runs in ODIs.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Pakistan batsmen got off to a good start but struggled to keep the run rate going. A 104-run partnership between Saud Shakeel (62) and Mohammad Rizwan (46) was the only highlight of their innings, albeit at a very slow pace. At 151-2, Pakistan were in a position to go past 250 but India blew away the batting to bowl them out for 241. Along with Virat, spinner Kuldeep also etched his name in the record books by becoming the fifth Indian spinner to take 300 international wickets. The 30-year-old from Kanpur joined the ranks of legendary spinners Anil Kumble, Ravichandran Ashwin, Harbhajan Singh and Ravindra Jadeja. Kuldeep got his 300th wicket by dismissing Salman Ali Agha in the 43rd over
