Update: 2025-01-07 09:18 GMT

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Election Commission of India has officially announced that the Delhi Assembly elections will take place on February 5, 2025 with the vote counting scheduled for February 8, 2025. This announcement was made at a press conference held today, January 7, 2025. With this declaration, the Model Code of Conduct has come into effect, regulating the actions of political parties and candidates until the elections are concluded.

The upcoming elections will feature a fierce competition primarily between three major political parties: the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is seeking a historic third consecutive term; the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP); and the Indian National Congress. AAP currently holds a dominant position in the Delhi Assembly, with 62 out of 70 seats.

Kejriwal’s campaign is already in full swing with AAP unveiling its campaign song "Phir Layenge Kejriwal" (Will bring back Kejriwal). Meanwhile, both the BJP and Congress are preparing for a tough electoral fight with Congress focusing on potential anti-incumbency sentiments against AAP. As the election date draws near, all parties are stepping up their efforts and refining their strategies for what is expected to be a crucial election for the future of Delhi.
