Big Relief for Central Employees: Modi Government Approves 8th Pay Commission

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Before the Delhi Assembly elections, the Modi government has given a big gift to the central employees. The Cabinet on Thursday approved the formation of the Eighth Pay Commission. Sharing the information about the cabinet decisions, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said, "The Prime Minister has approved the formation of the Eighth Central Pay Commission for all the employees of the Central Government. This decision has been taken in view of ensuring benefits for government employees.

The chairman and two members of the commission will be appointed soon. The recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission were implemented in 2016, but its term ends in 2026. However, the recommendations of the Eighth Pay Commission are expected to be received before the completion of the term of the Seventh Pay Commission, for which enough time has been given till 2025. The recommendations of the Eighth Pay Commission are expected to be implemented by 2026. After this decision of the central government, lakhs of government employees and pensioners across the country will get benefits. The organizations of central employees were demanding the formation of the Eighth Pay Commission for a long time. These organizations were constantly pressurizing the government. So that the salary related issues of the employees could be resolved. Many times the employee unions had also demanded the central government to clarify the situation in this matter.

The Seventh Pay Commission, constituted by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on 28 February 2014, submitted its report on 19 November 2015, whose recommendations were implemented from 1 January 2016. Based on this timeline, the Eighth Pay Commission is expected to be effective from 1 January 2026. The constitution of the Eighth Central Pay Commission and acceptance of its recommendations will directly impact the salaries of about 49 lakh government employees and 68 lakh pensioners and benefit them. The Central Pay Commission is constituted from time to time to review and recommend changes in the pay structure and allowances of Central Government employees.
