AAP MLAs Banned from Entering Delhi Assembly; Atishi Slams BJP for Crossing Limits
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The report presented by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) on the excise policy is going to be discussed in the Delhi Assembly. Before this, the Deputy Speaker will be elected in the House. At the same time, Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Atishi is protesting with her party MLAs under the statue of Gandhi outside the assembly premises. She alleges that on the orders of the Speaker, the police is preventing the opposition MLAs from entering the House premises. Atishi said, "Police officers are saying that AAP MLAs have been suspended from the House, so they are not being allowed to enter the premises. This is undemocratic and unconstitutional. We tried to talk to the Speaker, but there was no effect."
The former CM posted on Twitter and alleged that the BJP government crossed all limits of dictatorship as soon as it came to power. He said that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs were suspended for three days for raising 'Jai Bhim' slogans and today they are not even being allowed to enter the assembly premises. He called it an unprecedented step in the history of Delhi Assembly.
Opposition's stand on the CAG report
: BJP MLA Satish Upadhyay said that the incidents of corruption that have come to light in the CAG report prove that the Aam Aadmi Party has given undue benefits to its close aides. Upadhyay alleged that the amount that should have been spent for the welfare of the people of Delhi went into the pockets of dishonest people. He said, "AAP will have to answer for the revenue loss of more than Rs 2000 crore to Delhi through a discussion in the House."
Congress state president Devendra Yadav said that the findings of the CAG report clearly mention 'loot, lies and division'. He claimed that earlier the government used to say that the excise policy was increasing revenue, but it is clear from the report that the Delhi government has suffered a loss of more than Rs 2002 crore. Yadav demanded to expand the scope of investigation into the liquor scam and include the complaint given by the Congress to the Police Commissioner in September 2022.
