New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Meta-owned WhatsApp has added a new feature called Voice Message Transcripts, through which users can translate voice messages into text. This feature is designed to help users catch up with conversations even when they are doing other things.

Transcripts will be available worldwide over the next few weeks and will support a small set of languages at launch, with more languages added later. In its latest blog post, WhatsApp highlighted the power of sending voice messages in making the conversation more personal with friends and family. The company noted, "There's something special about hearing your loved one's voice even when you're far away. However, there are times when you may be on the go, in a noisy environment, or receive a lengthy voice message that you cannot listen to immediately."

So, to deal with all these situations, WhatsApp offers voice message transcripts. These will be created on the device of the user, which means nobody, not even WhatsApp, gets access to or can read the private messages. To avail this feature, users need to go to Settings > Chats and then select Voice Message Transcripts in order to easily allow or disable transcriptions and choose their preferred transcript language.

A voice message can be translated by holding the message and choosing 'transcribe' from the menu. WhatsApp stated that it was excited to continue this development to make it even faster and easier. The company has also introduced Message Drafts, a feature that solves the common problem of forgetting to send incomplete messages. WhatsApp will label the chat as "Draft" and position it at the top of the chat list if the user is typing but not pressing "send." This allows users to have instant access to and complete their messages without having to sift through many conversations.
