South Africa’s champions trophy blow JP Duminy resigns, team in turmoil!
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): JP Duminy has resigned from his position as the batting coach of the South African cricket team. The South African Cricket Board (CSA) announced on Friday that Duminy stepped down due to personal reasons. The resignation of Duminy who had been serving as the white-ball batting coach since March 2023 was confirmed via a social media post by the CSA. In a statement the board expressed its appreciation for Duminy's contributions highlighting his integral role in enhancing the team's batting performance in limited-overs formats.
Duminy a cricket legend in South Africa had made a significant impact during his short tenure and the CSA extended its gratitude for his services. With his resignation South Africa now requires a new batting coach for its white-ball teams (T20 and ODI). The board stated that the search for a replacement is underway and an announcement will be made soon. Duminy represented South Africa in international cricket from 2004 to 2019 amassing over 9,000 runs and 132 wickets in 326 matches. Meanwhile the South African team is currently engaged in a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. South Africa won the first Test by 233 runs and at the end of the second day of the second Test Sri Lanka has scored 242/3 still trailing by 116 runs in their first innings.
