New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): With the festive season of Holi around the corner, railway stations across the country are bracing themselves for the impending rush. Following the massive crowds witnessed during the Maha Kumbh, railway authorities are taking special measures to manage the expected surge in passenger traffic. According to railway officials, trains on almost all routes are expected to be crowded till Holi, with those heading east being the most packed. To cater to this demand, the railways have announced plans to run approximately 250 special trains from various stations, with the majority originating from Delhi. To ensure smooth operations and prevent overcrowding, temporary waiting rooms and control rooms have been set up at major stations, including New Delhi and Anand Vihar Terminal. Staff from various departments have been deployed in these control rooms to address any issues promptly. Additionally, the number of Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel has been increased at these stations.

In a bid to prevent stampedes and overcrowding, the railways have implemented strict rules. Unauthorized entry points at 60 major stations across the country will be sealed, and only passengers with confirmed tickets will be allowed to enter the platform. This system will be piloted at six major stations, including New Delhi, Anand Vihar, Surat, Varanasi, Ayodhya, and Patna. Railway employees at these stations have also been instructed to adhere to a dress code. These measures aim to ensure a smooth and safe travel experience for passengers during the festive season.
