Punjab kings hand Over Captaincy to 26.75 crore player who led KKR to IPL glory
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): In a unique and exciting announcement Punjab Kings (PBKS) has revealed Shreyas Iyer as their captain for the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The big reveal took place during the Bigg Boss 18 Weekend Ka Vaar episode where Bollywood superstar Salman Khan made the announcement with cricketers Yuzvendra Chahal and Shashank Singh joining Iyer on stage. Iyer who led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the IPL 2024 title has joined Punjab Kings after being purchased for an impressive Rs 26.75 crore in the IPL mega auction. This makes him the second-most expensive player in IPL history. Known for his leadership skills Iyer has a successful captaincy record. He previously led Delhi Capitals to their first IPL final in 2020 though they were defeated by Mumbai Indians. In 2021 Iyer was replaced by Rishabh Pant as Delhi’s captain but he bounced back with KKR in 2022, where he captained the team for two seasons and helped them lift the title.
