Perth(The Uttam Hindu): Virat Kohli made a triumphant return to form as he scored his 30th Test century in the ongoing India vs. Australia series in Perth. The landmark century came on Day 3 of the first Test at Optus Stadium, with Kohli surpassing the three-figure mark and reclaiming his dominant position in international cricket.

The 36-year-old entered this Test series under considerable pressure, having only managed two centuries in the past four years. His first innings in Perth was a disappointment, with Kohli being dismissed for just 5 runs. However, he came roaring back in the second innings, with a series of exquisite shots that demonstrated his technical brilliance. Kohli started confidently, playing a perfect straight drive off Australia’s captain Pat Cummins, followed by his signature cover drive that hinted at his return to form. Against Australia's spin bowler Nathan Lyon, Kohli displayed calm and measured footwork, showcasing his adaptability.

Kohli's 81st international century came off Marnus Labuschagne’s bowling in the 135th over of India's second innings. His knock played a key role in India extending their lead beyond 500 runs, following a solid contribution from opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal earlier in the day. Kohli’s partnership with Jaiswal has left Australia’s Pat Cummins and his team with a daunting task, as they now face a large deficit in the first Test of the series.
