IPL 2025: Bumrah joins Mumbai Indians ahead of RCB clash

Update: 2025-04-06 07:55 GMT

Mumbai(The Uttam Hindu):  In an exciting update for fans worldwide, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has rejoined the Mumbai Indians camp ahead of their IPL 2025 clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Monday at Wankhede Stadium. Bumrah had been sidelined since sustaining a back injury during the fifth Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground, which kept him out of action for the second innings of the match. As a result, he missed the remainder of the series, which Australia won 3-1. Following five weeks of rest, Bumrah began his recovery at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, missing India’s white-ball series against England and the victorious Champions Trophy campaign in Dubai.

Mumbai Indians shared the news of Bumrah’s arrival on social media with the caption, "Ready to roar." Sources revealed that Bumrah joined the Mumbai Indians camp on Saturday evening after playing a practice match at the CoE earlier in the day and receiving approval from the medical team. "It's a huge boost for the team to have Bumrah back in full fitness, and everyone is excited to have him with us. However, whether he plays in tomorrow's match against RCB is still uncertain," sources added. "Ultimately, it will be Bumrah’s decision after discussions with the MI management, led by head coach Mahela Jayawardene." The final confirmation on Bumrah's availability is expected during Mumbai Indians' pre-match press conference at 5:30 pm on Sunday, followed by practice from 6-9 pm at Wankhede Stadium.

Since his IPL debut in 2013, Bumrah has been a key figure in Mumbai Indians' bowling attack, taking 165 wickets in 133 matches. The only season he missed was in 2023 when he was recovering from back surgery. Bumrah's return provides a crucial boost to Mumbai, who are currently in eighth place with two points from four matches and need a strong run to make it to the playoffs.
