Foz Do Iguacu (Brazil)(The Uttam Hindu): The Indian boxing team delivered an impressive performance at the World Boxing Cup 2025 in Brazil, securing six medals in their first-ever participation in the elite international competition. This achievement includes a historic gold and silver, marking a strong start for India in the prestigious tournament. Hitesh made history by becoming the first-ever Indian boxer to win a gold medal at the World Boxing Cup. His opponent, Odel Kamara of England, was unable to compete in the 70kg final due to injury, allowing Hitesh to claim the top spot by default.

Abhinash Jamwal, another standout Indian boxer, fought valiantly in the 65kg final against the local favourite Yuri Reis. However, despite his best efforts, he had to settle for the silver medal after a narrow loss. Four other Indian boxers secured bronze medals: Jadumani Singh Mandengbam (50kg), Manish Rathore (55kg), Sachin (60kg), and Vishal (90kg). Reflecting on his historic achievement, Hitesh credited the 10-day training camp in Brazil prior to the tournament for helping him and the team significantly. "The camp helped me learn a few tactical nuances that were very useful during the competition. This tournament provided us invaluable exposure at the highest level, and I’m thrilled to win the gold," said Hitesh.

India’s 10-member contingent had their first major international outing since the Paris Olympics, and with six medals to their name, the team's performance has given a huge boost to their morale as they now prepare for the 2028 Olympic cycle leading up to the Los Angeles Games.
