Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): With cricket set to make its Olympic debut in Los Angeles in 2028, International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman Jay Shah met Thomas Bach, the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to further promote the move. Shah, who recently assumed the role of ICC Chairman met Bach in Lausanne, Switzerland as the IOC President nears the end of his term before elections later this year. This meeting is part of ongoing collaboration between the two organizations leading up to LA28 and beyond.

The ICC shared the news on its official Instagram, stating "Momentum continues to build around cricket’s inclusion as an Olympic sport at the LA28 Games and beyond with Jay Shah meeting IOC President Thomas Bach in Lausanne, Switzerland this week." Cricket's inclusion in the LA28 sports program was confirmed during the 141st IOC Session in Mumbai, alongside other sports like Flag Football, Lacrosse, Squash and Baseball/Softball.

Cricket has already been part of other major multi-sport events such as the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games. The women's T20 format was featured in the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou hosted both men's and women's cricket. Being part of the Olympic Games will propel the sport even further. While the final format for cricket in the Los Angeles Olympics is still to be decided, it is expected to be played in the T20 format.
