BCCI's Unexpected Move: Strict New Rules for Indian Team Ahead of Champions Trophy

Update: 2025-02-13 15:11 GMT

Ahmedabad(The Uttam Hindu): In a significant move, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has imposed strict guidelines on Indian captain Rohit Sharma ahead of the Champions Trophy. The board handed over a detailed list of regulations concerning travel, family, and luggage management during the Ahmedabad ODI. These guidelines come into effect immediately, with players expected to adhere to them during the upcoming tournament in Dubai.

Sources indicate that the BCCI's decision is aimed at improving discipline, unity, and creating a positive team environment. The new rules include restrictions on bringing personal staff, such as managers, chefs, and assistants, unless approved by the board. This decision follows logistical challenges faced by players in the past, where several players traveled with personal staff like hairstylists and cooks.

The BCCI’s actions stem from previous controversies, particularly surrounding the England series, where captain Rohit Sharma expressed his displeasure with such regulations. Despite the controversy, the board is firm in its stance, with Hyderabad Cricket Association Secretary R. Devaraj being appointed as the manager for the Champions Trophy. He will be tasked with ensuring players comply with the new directives.

As per the report, the BCCI is determined to maintain discipline and efficiency throughout the tournament, signaling a more controlled approach in managing team logistics and ensuring the focus remains on performance.
