Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Punjab Police’s State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) in Amritsar has made a significant breakthrough by dismantling a narco-terror module linked to foreign handlers. The police arrested two individuals who admitted to their involvement in a grenade attack on the Islamabad Police Station in Amritsar. The arrested suspects have been identified as Gurjeet Singh from Dande in Gharinda, Amritsar, and Baljit Singh from Chhapa in Tarn Taran. Authorities recovered 1.4 kg of heroin, a hand grenade, and two sophisticated pistols—one 9MM Zigana and one 9MM Glock, along with ammunition, from their possession.

This development follows the grenade attack at the Islamabad Police Station around 3 a.m. on December 17, 2024. A few hours after the attack, Jeevan Fauji, a foreign-based individual linked to Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), claimed responsibility for the incident via social media. According to Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, SSOC Amritsar received intelligence about Sandeep Singh alias Seepu, a US-based drug smuggler running a network that trafficked drugs and weapons from Pakistan into India. Acting swiftly on this information, SSOC Amritsar arrested Gurjeet Singh, recovering 1.4 kg of heroin from him. Further investigations into Gurjeet Singh’s arrest led to the identification of his accomplice, Baljit Singh. The two were found to be responsible for the grenade attack on the Islamabad Police Station, carried out under the instructions of a foreign-based handler introduced to them by Seepu.

The investigation continues as authorities work to identify the terrorist organization involved in the attack and the foreign handler behind it. AIG SSOC Amritsar, Sukhminder Singh Mann, confirmed that further searches yielded a hand grenade and two pistols, along with ammunition, from the suspects. The authorities are continuing their efforts to uncover the full scope of the network and trace previous consignments of drugs and weapons transported by the accused. A new case (FIR No. 74) has been registered on December 26, 2024, under various sections of the NDPS Act, Arms Act, and Explosive Act at the SSOC Amritsar Police Station.
