New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The people of Punjab who have paid electricity bills of thousands are now heaving a sigh of relief after getting zero electricity bill. By fulfilling the promise of 300 units of free electricity per month, the Mann government has freed the domestic electricity consumers of Punjab from the financial crisis. In fact, when Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann took office in 2022, a major concern for more than 3 crore people of Punjab was whether the newly formed state government would give 300 units of free electricity from the first month. On April 16, a few weeks after coming to power, CM Mann made a historic announcement, which was in favor of the public.

It was long awaited and he announced the implementation of 300 units of free electricity. Since the electricity bill in Punjab comes every two months, 600 units of electricity is being given free every two months. Apart from this, the Punjab government created history by dedicating the private thermal plant of Goindwal Sahib to the people. The Mann government created history by starting a coal mine in Panchuwara, Jharkhand. Along with this, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited has achieved a remarkable feat by earning a profit of Rs 804.94 crore for the financial year 2023-24. Thanks to the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Mann who gave priority to the timely payment of power subsidy to PSPCL. As a result, the corporation has got much needed financial relief. In April last year, the Punjab government had to pay Rs 1751 crore as power subsidy, but the government has already paid Rs 1790.62 crore to Powercom. The money that poor families used to spend on paying electricity bills earlier, now they are spending the same money for other needs of their family. This has provided financial relief to domestic consumers. Due to this effort of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann's government, 90 percent of domestic consumers are getting free electricity facility.
