Punjab elections see 63.91% voter turnout, Gidderbaha shines with highest participation
Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Punjab recorded an overall voter turnout of 63.91% in the recent Assembly elections, according to preliminary data released by the Election Commission of India. The turnout reflects diverse participation levels across constituencies, with some areas witnessing enthusiastic voting while others recorded lower engagement.
In the *Dera Baba Nanak (AC-10)* constituency, out of 1,93,376 registered electors, 1,23,773 cast their votes, resulting in a turnout of 64.01%. The *Chabbewal (AC-44)* constituency saw a notably lower voter turnout, with only 85,177 out of 1,59,432 eligible voters participating, reflecting a turnout of 53.43%. On the other hand, *Gidderbaha (AC-84)* recorded the highest voter participation, with 1,36,550 out of 1,67,731 electors turning up to vote, marking an impressive turnout of 81.90%. Meanwhile, in *Barnala (AC-103)*, 99,956 out of 1,69,566 electors exercised their franchise, resulting in a turnout of 56.34%.
The Election Commission highlighted that Gidderbaha had the highest voter engagement at 81.90%, while Chabbewal recorded the lowest turnout at just 53.43%. These figures are approximate as some polling stations are yet to submit their final data. The official turnout will be confirmed once all polling agents provide Form 17C. These elections are crucial for shaping the political landscape of Punjab. With the counting of votes yet to take place, all eyes are on the final results, which will determine the state’s leadership in the coming years.
