Punjab BJP Names Senior Leaders as Heads for Upcoming Municipal Polls, Setting the Stage for a Major Electoral Battle
Chandigarh(The Uttam Hindu):The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is gearing up for the upcoming municipal elections in Punjab. Despite a disappointing performance in the by-elections, where the party failed to secure any seats, the BJP has already appointed in-charges and co-in-charges for the elections in five districts, including 43 municipal councils and municipal corporations. Senior leaders, lawmakers, former legislators, and former ministers have been given these responsibilities as the party aims to secure victories in urban areas.
Appointments in Jalandhar: For the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation, which has a total of 85 wards, the following appointments were made:
>Wards 1-45: Manohar Kalia
>Wards 46-85: Ashwani Sharma (in-charge), Sushil Rinku (co-in-charge), and KD Bhandari (co-in-charge).
Appointments in Phagwara: For the Phagwara Municipal Corporation, which has 50 wards:
>Wards 1-25: Vijay Sampla (in-charge)
>Wards 26-50: Som Prakash (in-charge)
>Suraj Bhardwaj and Rajesh Bagga (co-in-charges).
Appointments in Patiala: For the Patiala Municipal Corporation, which has 60 wards:
>Wards 1-30: Harjeet Singh Grewal (in-charge)
>Wards 31-60: Parneet Kaur (in-charge)
>Daman Bajwa and Sarup Chand Singla (co-in-charges).
Appointments in Amritsar: For the Amritsar Municipal Corporation, which has 85 wards:
>Wards 1-45: Shavet Malik (in-charge)
>Wards 46-85: Ashwani Sekhri (in-charge)
>Rakesh Sharma and Bikramjeet Singh Chima (co-in-charges).
Appointments in Ludhiana: For the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation, which has 95 wards:
>Wards 1-47: Keval Singh Dhillon (in-charge)
>Wards 48-95: Avinash Rai Khanna (in-charge)
>Dr. Harjot Kamal and Jatinder Mittal (co-in-charges).
Additional Appointments for Other Regions:
>Subhash Sharma has been appointed in-charge for Mohali and Balachaur.

Appointments for Municipal Councils:
>For Firozpur’s Makhuw and Mallan Wala Khas Municipal Council, Rana Gurmeet Singh Sohi (in-charge) and Vandana Sangwan (co-in-charge) have been appointed.
>For Gurdaspur’s Dera Baba Nanak and Pathankot’s Narot Jaimal Singh Municipal Council, Dinesh Singh Babu (in-charge) and Ravikaran Singh Kahloon and Seema Devi (co-in-charges) have been appointed.
>For Hoshiarpur’s Mahalpur and Talwara Municipal Council, Jangi Lal Mahajan (in-charge) and Kulwant Singh Baath (co-in-charge) have been appointed.
>For Jalandhar North’s Bhogpur and Goraya Municipal Council, Teekshan Sood (in-charge) and Meenu Sethi (co-in-charge) are in charge.
>For Jalandhar South’s Bilga and Shahkot Municipal Council, Inder Iqbal Singh Atwal (in-charge) and Amarjeet Singh Amri (co-in-charge) have been appointed.
