Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): A political storm has erupted in Punjab ahead of the upcoming assembly by-elections. Former Punjab Chief Minister and MP Charanjit Singh Channi campaigned for the Congress party in Barnala, addressing several rallies in support of Congress candidate Kuldeep Singh Kala Dhillon. Speaking to the media, Channi expressed confidence in Congress’s victory, stating that the party was receiving an overwhelming response. He added that Dhillon faces no competition from any party or candidate in Barnala and that the Congress would secure a decisive win.

During his address, Channi also took aim at MP Ravneet Bittu, responding to his comments about the cultivation of traditional intoxicants in Punjab. Channi criticized Bittu for his inconsistency in statements, saying, "Ravneet Bittu doesn’t know what he’s saying at what time." He further mocked Bittu, suggesting that while Neetu Shutterwala could potentially become the Punjab CM, Bittu would never achieve anything significant.

Channi also emphasized the strong support for Congress, claiming that party events were attracting large crowds, almost like a wedding celebration. He highlighted the previous Congress tenure, claiming that the party had ensured justice for everyone. Criticizing the current state of affairs, Channi said that Punjab's cities had fallen into disrepair, with businessmen and shopkeepers facing threats from gangsters. He added that scams, extortion, and rampant drug abuse were becoming commonplace, while the police were failing to address the growing issues.
