Massive drug bust in Jalandhar: Police seize ₹84.5 lakh in assets from smugglers in major crackdown
Jalandhar (The Uttam Hindu): Jalandhar Rural SSP Harkamal Preet Singh revealed that the police have been tightening their grip on criminal elements over the past four months through stringent actions. This operation was carried out under the NDPS Act. The accused have amassed crores in assets by selling drugs across the state. The Jalandhar Rural Police have seized property worth ₹84.5 lakh in their crackdown against drug smugglers. This action was taken in connection with four separate cases related to drug trafficking. SSP Harkamal Preet Singh shared this information about the operation.
Singh further explained that the police have been working hard to curb criminal activities, particularly drug trafficking, over the last few months. The assets seized are now registered in the name of the Government of India, and their auction will take place as per legal procedures. Seized assets include those of four drug smugglers, SSP Singh confirmed. The police confiscated the car of Harish Kumar, a resident of Kapurthala, who was involved in a case registered at Shahkot Police Station. Additionally, a 9-marla plot worth ₹52 lakh belonging to Lakhvir Chand from Hoshiarpur has been seized.
This action was taken under an FIR filed on May 26, 2020, in Bhogpur. Moreover, a 11-kanal 1-marla plot of Prem Singh from Mahitpur has been frozen, along with a residential house worth ₹20.74 lakh owned by Sonu Kumar from Maksoodan. Punjab shares a border with Pakistan, which leads to frequent activities of drug smugglers. The Border Security Force (BSF), India's first line of defense, remains on alert to prevent such activities. On the other hand, the Punjab Police is also actively running various campaigns against drug trafficking.
