Jalandhar Commissionerate Police busts international drug cartel, recovers 3 KG opium
Jalandhar(The Uttam Hindu): Jalandhar Commissionerate Police have achieved a significant breakthrough by busting an international drug trafficking gang and seizing a massive 3 kilograms of opium in a commercial quantity. Divulging more, Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma said that the operation led to the arrest of three individuals involved in smuggling and packaging opium for international distribution.
He further noted that On November 24, 2024, the CIA team arrested Chahat, a resident of New Sant Nagar, Bhargo Camp, Jalandhar, at Mata Rani Chowk, recovering 1 KG of opium from his possession. Following this, an FIR (No. 114) was registered under the NDPS Act at Bhargo Camp Police Station. The CP stated that the interrogation revealed the involvement of two accomplices, Pawan Kumar and Ranbir Singh, who were subsequently apprehended the same day. The police again recovered an additional 2 KG of opium from them. The gang is suspected of packaging drugs into parcels and smuggling them abroad.
Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma also said that Section 29 of the NDPS Act has been added to the case, and an extensive investigation is underway to identify the gang’s forward and backward linkages. Efforts are being made to track other individuals connected to this illegal operation and ensure further recoveries. Notably, Pawan Kumar has a criminal record, with two previous FIRs registered against him under the NDPS Act earlier this year, while the other two accused have no prior criminal history. This successful operation underscores the commitment of Jalandhar Police to combat drug trafficking and dismantle criminal networks in the city.
