Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Jasvir Singh Garhi, the former Punjab state president of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) officially joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday, the first day of the new year. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann welcomed Garhi into AAP. It is noteworthy that Garhi was removed from his position as the Punjab BSP president in November last year by BSP's national president Kumari Mayawati under the instructions of state in-charge Randhir Singh Beniwal, who accused him of indiscipline.

Following his removal, BSP appointed former Rajya Sabha member and ex-legislator Avtar Singh Karimpuri as the new Punjab state president. Karimpuri had previously served as the BSP Punjab president for several years. Now, Jasvir Singh Garhi has aligned himself with the Aam Aadmi Party. Earlier, in a heartfelt Facebook live video, Garhi had shared his thoughts under the heading, "New Year Mubarak, walking on new paths, achieving new destinations," hinting at his decision to take a new direction.
