Big Relief for Mayor Kuldeep Kumar: High Court Grants Interim Bail Amid Corruption Case
Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Chandigarh's sitting Mayor, Kuldeep Kumar, has been granted interim bail by the Punjab-Haryana High Court. This decision allows him to cast his vote in the upcoming Municipal Corporation elections without the fear of arrest.
Prior to the voting, Mayor Kumar sought anticipatory bail and permission from the High Court to participate in the mayoral election process. The Mayor, who belongs to the Aam Aadmi Party and Congress alliance, filed a petition late last night to avoid arrest. Voting is expected to begin shortly, with the counting process to follow immediately afterward.
It is important to note that on Wednesday, a corruption case was registered against Mayor Kuldeep Kumar and his brother-in-law, Rahul. The Chandigarh Crime Branch filed the case after allegations surfaced that the duo had taken 75,000 rupees from an individual in exchange for securing a sanitation worker's job. The complainant, identified as Ravi, lodged a formal complaint with the Chandigarh Crime Branch. Following an investigation and the collection of evidence, an FIR was registered against the accused.
