Akal Takht sentences Ram Rahim in apology case: Sukhbir to clean used utensils, former CM Badal's community honor revoked

Amritsar(The Uttam Hindu):In Punjab, on Monday, at the Akal Takht Sahib in Golden Temple, the Dera Sacha Sauda chief, Gurmeet Ram Rahim, was sentenced to perform a public apology and cleaning of utensils for his involvement in a case of sacrilege. Former Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader, Sukhbir Singh Badal, while addressing the issue, stated that Ram Rahim would be required to perform the cleaning of utensils and offer a public apology as part of his sentence.

As part of the punishment, Sukhbir Singh Badal mentioned that Ram Rahim would have to stand near the golden bell at the Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple) and perform his punishment, which would be carried out for two days. During this period, his neck and hands would be covered with shackles. Following this, he would be asked to wear a specific attire, including a coat and a turban, and would have to serve for two days as part of his punishment. Additionally, Ram Rahim would be required to recite prayers during the period of his service.

Jathedar, the head of the Golden Temple, also mentioned that after the punishment, Sukhbir Singh Badal would have to sit for one hour, singing devotional songs and cleaning utensils, after which he would need to read religious scriptures. Furthermore, the former Chief Minister, Parkash Singh Badal, will have his respect reinstated in society once the sentence is completed.

This case has raised significant debate, with many emphasizing that Ram Rahim's actions have led to the return of the former CM's recognition among the public. The case reflects the tense dynamics between religious and political figures in Punjab.
