The Easiest Fishtail Braid Tutorial: Simple Steps for Gorgeous Hair
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): One of the first hairstyles I was determined to master as my hair grew longer was the fishtail braid. While I eventually learned how to do it, perfecting the technique was another challenge altogether! I get the gist of it, but it's never quite been my favorite look. My fishtail braids tend to fall apart or look messy in a way that isn’t as cute as I’d like. Luckily, there are some clever tricks to achieve a fishtail-inspired vibe without needing to master the classic technique. This version still gives you that big, slightly messy fishtail vibe, but it’s way simpler to do. It actually borrows some techniques from previous styles I’ve shared, like the triple twist ponytail and French pull-through braid. These all have a similar vibe but are much easier for those of us who aren’t the most dexterous with traditional braiding.
Step One: Start by taking a small section of hair from both sides of your head and twist them together. (I like to twist both sections inward for a more polished look.) Secure them together with a small ponytail.
Step Two: Repeat this twisting and tying process with two more small sections of hair, creating mini ponytails as you go.
Step Three: For the next section, gather more hair from both sides and tie it into another ponytail.
Step Four: For the final ponytail, find the middle and pull the hair up and through the loop to finish the style.
It totally resembles a fishtail braid, right? But if you're like me and struggle with slippery fingers or keeping braids intact, this method is much easier than the traditional fishtail. Plus, the result is a full, thick braid that’s perfect for a more relaxed, effortless look. I love how it adds volume and texture without the fuss. Enjoy experimenting with this look!
