Students at NMIMS Telangana suffer from food poisoning
Hyderabad (The Uttam Hindu): Over 50 students from Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) in Jadcherla suffered food poisoning after eating their meals on campus on Thursday. The students experienced nausea, vomiting, stomach pain and fever after consuming the food. Students claimed that the college management tried to cover up the incident by treating them on campus instead of shifting them to a hospital. Private doctors attended to the affected students on the floors of the library and common rooms.
Jadcherla MLA P. Anirudh Reddy visited the institute after learning about the situation and criticized the administration. He was shocked to see students being treated on the floor without proper medical care. He questioned the qualifications of the doctors and the lack of medical equipment. He also ordered the administration to immediately shift the students to hospitals for better treatment. “You are only trying to protect the university. Take care of the students first. Shift them to hospitals immediately. If anything happens, who will take responsibility?” the MLA asked the officials. Following his intervention, around 15-20 students were taken to hospitals in Mahabubnagar and Hyderabad.
The students issued a statement criticizing the administration’s failure to provide safe and hygienic food, as well as the lack of emergency medical transportation. They said no ambulances were initially arranged, and only after pressure from authorities was an ambulance finally provided. The students also alleged that this was not an isolated incident. They have repeatedly complained about the poor quality of food and drinking water but claim that the administration has been negligent. Concerns have been raised multiple times about the quality of groceries, vegetables, and cooking oils used in the mess, but the college has not taken any action.
