Say goodbye to uric acid problems – Just do this simple thing
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Increased uric acid levels in the body can lead to several serious health issues. Uric acid, a byproduct formed during the breakdown of cells is usually eliminated through urine. However high levels of uric acid a condition known as hyperuricemia can result in problems like gout a painful joint condition and can also lead to the acidification of blood and urine. If left unchecked elevated uric acid can negatively impact the kidneys as well.
One of the main causes of increased uric acid is dehydration which is especially common in the summer. When the body lacks sufficient water it produces less urine hindering the elimination of uric acid. This can lead to the accumulation of uric acid in the body. To reduce uric acid levels consuming certain foods and drinks can be very helpful.
Lemon, for example has been shown in studies to help lower uric acid levels. A mixture of lemon juice and half a teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water when consumed three times a day can be beneficial. Similarly, mushrooms, rich in beta-glucan carbohydrates can help reduce inflammation which in turn helps manage uric acid levels. Arthritis patients, in particular can benefit from incorporating mushrooms into their diet.
Cucumber often consumed in the summer is another great option. With its high water content and fiber it helps prevent water deficiency in the body, aiding in the reduction of uric acid. Tomatoes, rich in vitamin C can also help lower uric acid levels. Similarly, pumpkin, packed with antioxidants like vitamin C, beta-carotene and lutein, helps reduce inflammation and oxidative stress, both of which contribute to high uric acid.
Pears, high in fiber, can also boost purine metabolism which helps reduce uric acid in the body. For arthritis and rheumatism patients, consuming pears can be particularly beneficial.
Foods rich in vitamin C such as oranges, lemons, kiwi, guava, broccoli, cauliflower and capsicum are also excellent for preventing arthritis and managing uric acid. Additionally, fiber-rich foods such as green leafy vegetables, oats, whole grains, broccoli, pumpkin, pears, celery, cucumbers, blueberries, apples and oranges can help control uric acid levels. Fiber helps with the absorption of uric acid into the bloodstream and its subsequent elimination from the body.
Finally, fresh vegetable juices, particularly those made from carrots, cucumbers, and beetroot, can serve as an effective home remedy to keep uric acid levels in check. By incorporating these foods and drinks into your diet you can help manage uric acid levels and reduce the risk of associated health problems.
