New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): High uric acid levels known as hyperuricemia occur when the body produces too much uric acid or cannot eliminate enough. Uric acid a waste product formed during the breakdown of purine found in certain foods is usually filtered by the kidneys and excreted in urine. However, when uric acid accumulates in the blood it can lead to conditions like gout and kidney stones causing severe pain.

To manage uric acid levels certain foods can be beneficial. Bananas which contain little purine, can help reduce uric acid and lower the risk of arthritis. Apples rich in dietary fiber and malic acid absorb and eliminate excess uric acid from the bloodstream. Citrus fruits such as oranges and lemons are high in vitamin C and can help flush out uric acid from the body. Green tea which has been shown to reduce uric acid production is also a good choice for those suffering from gout or high uric acid levels.

As we consider the role of diet in managing health it is a reminder of how small changes in what we eat can have significant impacts on our well-being especially in managing conditions like high uric acid levels and preventing related health issues.
