Think you’re safe? think Again – how to outsmart hotel booking scammers!
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): When someone travels to another city for sightseeing they typically book a hotel room to stay choosing one based on their preferences and budget. However even a small mistake during the booking process can lead to significant problems. Recently people have fallen victim to hotel room booking scams with fraudsters stealing large amounts of money. For instance a person from Andaman was scammed out of 6.1 lakh rupees while booking a hotel room. The scammers managed to steal his card details by offering a 10% discount on his credit card. To protect yourself from such scams it’s important to follow some precautions when booking a hotel room.
First always use a verified booking portal. Choose websites that end in .com or .in and start with https. Avoid saving your payment details on any portal even though it might seem convenient to do so in order to save time. This could be risky. Also never use public Wi-Fi while booking a hotel room online. Always book using a private network to ensure your details are secure. Scammers often use fake offers to trick people sending these offers through unknown emails. Never click on such emails as they could be fraudulent and lead to financial loss. By following these precautions you can safeguard yourself against booking scams.
