Weather unpredictability in February: Cold Spells, Rain and Snow Forecasted across India
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The weather in February has been fluctuating with varying cold and warm spells. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a western disturbance is set to impact North-West India, intensifying the cold with stronger winds. Rain and snowfall are expected in the western Himalayan regions from February 9 to 12 with Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam also forecasted to receive rain, prompting the IMD to issue alerts for these areas. In Rajasthan, dry conditions prevail with Fatehpur in Sikar district recording the coldest temperature at 3.2°C. Other areas reported temperatures such as 4.3°C in Karauli, 5.2°C in Mount Abu, and 5.7°C in Lunkaransar. The capital Jaipur saw a minimum of 10.6°C. The IMD predicts a 2-3°C rise in temperatures over the next 48 hours across most of the state.
In Jammu and Kashmir, scattered rain and snowfall are expected for the next three days. This winter has been unusual with warmer days and colder nights and a significant rainfall deficit in January. The IMD forecasts light rain and snowfall on February 10-11 with more active weather expected in Kashmir.
