This state Unveils 4% DA Boost for Employees, Strengthening Economic Outlook
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Before the 2026 Assembly elections, West Bengal's Finance Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya has presented the state's final full budget. The budget announces a 4% increase in the Dearness Allowance (DA) for government employees, which will come into effect from April 1, 2025. In a statement made in the Assembly, State Finance Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya explained that this increase is a significant step in providing relief to millions of government employees facing rising inflation. Employees, who have been demanding an increase in the dearness allowance for several months, have welcomed this announcement, expressing hope for an improvement in their financial condition.
In addition to the DA increase, other provisions have also been included in the budget. However, there has been no increase in the allocated amount for the Lakshmi Bhandar scheme. Meanwhile, a budget of 500 crore rupees has been allocated for the Ghatal Master Plan. This project is expected to be completed in the next two years, contributing to the state's development. Through this budget, Mamata Banerjee's government has attempted to reduce economic pressure and send a positive message to employees ahead of the elections. Experts believe that this step will not only improve the situation of government employees but will also have a positive impact on the state's overall economy.
