Tejashwi Yadav Promises Not to Implement Waqf Bill in Bihar if RJD Comes to Power
Patna(The Uttam Hindu): The political landscape in Bihar has heated up following the introduction of the Waqf Amendment Bill-2025. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav declared on Saturday that if his party comes to power in the state, the Bill will be "discarded" and "thrown into the dustbin." Describing the Bill as unconstitutional, Yadav, who is also the Leader of the Opposition in Bihar, accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of using divisive tactics to divert attention from the real issues facing the country. “The Waqf Amendment Bill is unconstitutional. It violates Article 26 of the Indian Constitution. The BJP is indulging in polarisation politics, distracting people from core national concerns by stirring up religious sentiments,” Yadav said.
Taking aim at the BJP and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Tejashwi claimed that the central government was bypassing the Constitution. “They want to implement laws based on the ideology of Nagpur (RSS). The BJP and RSS are anti-Constitution. We stand for secularism, social justice, and democratic values,” he added. Yadav further emphasized that the RJD had never compromised on its ideology, whether in power or opposition, and vowed to continue the fight against the Bill at all levels. He also criticized Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for aligning with the BJP for political gain, accusing him of indulging in self-centered politics. “No matter how much anyone tries to justify their stand, nothing will change. The people are watching. Just as we fight for caste-based reservation, we have also filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the Waqf Bill,” Yadav said.
Tejashwi argued that the BJP's real intention behind the Bill was to alienate Muslims, Dalits, and backward communities from the mainstream. “This is an effort to weaken the most marginalised groups. We won’t allow this to happen,” he asserted. Yadav's statements have added fuel to the political debate in Bihar, where the Waqf Amendment Bill has already caused turmoil within parties like JDU, with several Muslim leaders resigning and others raising concerns in dissent.
