Supreme Court Orders Health Report of Farmer Leader Dallewal, Says Some Are Pressuring Him
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The indefinite hunger strike by farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, demanding MSP and several other issues continues for the 51st day at the Khanouri Border. A hearing on the matter took place in the Supreme Court which has directed the Punjab government to provide the health report of Jagjit Singh Dallewal. As per the Supreme Court's order the AIIMS medical board will be consulted regarding Dallewal's health report.
Supreme Court's directives: A bench of Justices Suryakant and N. Kotiswar Singh expressed surprise, questioning how the health standards of a person who has been fasting for nearly 50 days could improve. The bench directed the Chief Secretary of Punjab to submit Dallewal's health check-up report to the Supreme Court's Registrar. Furthermore, the Court instructed the Registrar to seek the opinion of the AIIMS medical board regarding Dallewal's health report.
Requested Comparative Report: Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal, representing the Punjab government informed the bench that medical assistance was being provided to Dallewal and progress was being made. He mentioned that their team was stationed just 10 meters away from him. In response, Justice Suryakant asked whether they were claiming that Dallewal's health was improving and that doctors were present. Sibal replied that Dallewal had allowed them to conduct a blood test. Justice Suryakant commented that some individuals were pressuring Dallewal not to oppose the claim of improvement in his health. Sibal clarified that Dallewal's condition had not improved; according to the affidavit submitted by Punjab's Chief Secretary his condition remained stable. The Supreme Court then requested a comparative health report of Dallewal, reflecting both his current and prior health status. The next hearing of the case is scheduled for January 22.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday farmer leader Abhimanyu Kohad informed that Dallewal's health was continuously deteriorating. For the last 48 hours, Dallewal had been unable to consume water. Every time he tried to drink, he experienced vomiting. Doctors stated that his body organs were no longer able to process even water. Furthermore, most of his body organs had reached a point where they had stopped functioning.
