Sambhal (The Uttam Hindu): A recently reopened 46-year-old Shiva temple in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, continues to reveal astonishing discoveries. Initially, a Shivling and an idol of Lord Hanuman were found in the temple. Now, during the excavation of a well within the temple premises, ancient idols of Goddess Parvati, Lord Ganesha, and Lord Kartikeya have been unearthed.

The district administration began cleaning the well as part of the temple's reconstruction process. While removing the soil, the three idols were discovered. Among these, one idol, believed to be of Lord Kartikeya, is made of marble, while the other two idols were found in a partially damaged state. The Archaeological Department has been notified to determine the antiquity of the idols. Carbon dating will soon be conducted to establish their exact age. Deputy SP Anuj Chaudhary stated that all the idols discovered in the temple have been secured. Excavation work in the well has been halted, and the well has been covered. He remarked that this discovery marks a new chapter for historians and archaeologists.

This temple had been closed since 1978. According to locals, it was shut down following communal riots that year. After reconstruction, the temple was reopened on December 15. On Monday, devotees performed the third day of Lord Shiva's Jalabhishek, followed by an aarti of Lord Hanuman. Since the reopening, the temple has been attracting a growing number of devotees. Sambhal SDM Vandana Mishra shared that the temple was discovered during an anti-power theft campaign. “While conducting inspections across the area, we came across this temple. I sought permission from the District Magistrate to open it, and now we are inspecting the site. Inside the temple, we found a Shivling and an idol of Lord Hanuman, which locals identified as part of the 1978 temple structure,” she said.
