Sidhu’s Unexpected U-Turn: The Mystery Behind Wife’s Cancer Treatment Unfolds
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): After facing strong criticism from oncologists nationwide for claiming that diet could cure cancer, former cricketer and Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu clarified on Monday that his wife, Navjot Kaur, underwent surgeries, chemotherapy, hormonal and targeted therapies, alongside a strict diet plan inspired by ancient Indian Ayurveda to fight her cancer.
Sidhu had earlier sparked controversy during a press conference in Amritsar, Punjab, where he described his wife’s treatment for stage 4 breast cancer as "starving cancer by not eating dairy products and sugar." In a widely circulated video, he claimed that Kaur "consumed haldi (turmeric) and neem, which helped cure her 'incurable' cancer."
This statement drew heavy criticism from oncologists, who accused Sidhu of spreading misinformation, noting that there is no scientific evidence to support such claims. They also pointed to Kaur's history of chemotherapy. In response, Sidhu shared a post on X, stating that his wife’s cancer journey involved surgeries, chemotherapy, hormonal and targeted therapies, positivity, and determination, all of which were supported by a diet plan inspired by Ayurveda, the Nobel Prize-winning research of Yoshinori Ohsumi on autophagy, and observations from renowned doctors worldwide.
Sidhu also disclosed the details of the diet plan, which included alkaline water, a mixture of cardamom, holy basil (tulsi), mint, ginger, and cinnamon, intermittent fasting, turmeric, lemon water, and neem leaves, along with fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds. Despite acknowledging the potential health benefits of neem and turmeric, doctors reiterated that there is no scientific proof these remedies can cure cancer. They emphasized the importance of using diet as a complementary treatment rather than relying on it as a standalone solution.
