Police on high alert across the country, including Punjab, for New Year celebrations: strict action against violations

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Ahead of New Year’s celebrations, security is heightened across the country, including in Punjab, to ensure peace and order. With just hours left before the nation ushers in the New Year, security arrangements are in full force from north to south and east to west. Authorities are prepared to handle any untoward situations. In Uttar Pradesh, additional security measures have been implemented at religious sites. In Jharkhand, static forces have been deployed around dams, while Punjab has ensured a tight security setup. In Chennai, 25,000 police officers have been stationed, aided by drones and CCTV surveillance.

The Delhi Police have identified areas that are usually crowded with vehicles during such occasions. South Delhi DCP Ankit Chauhan stated that additional teams have been deployed at sensitive locations to monitor activities and ensure adherence to safety rules. To tackle the issue of drunk driving, breathalyzer checkpoints have been set up at 21 critical locations. Rapid Response Teams (QRTs) will be stationed at 15 key areas, and 38 PCR vans will be deployed for quick action. In Uttar Pradesh, security arrangements have been specially planned for the New Year celebrations. DGP Prashant Kumar mentioned that extra attention has been given to women’s safety. Flag marches will be conducted in all cities to prevent any disturbances. Additionally, the state’s religious sites, including the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple, have been provided with enhanced security to manage the anticipated large crowd of worshippers. In Jharkhand, security has been increased around all sensitive areas, including tourist spots, parks, and dams.


The state police have assigned static forces to ensure safety, and magistrates have been deployed for monitoring. Vigilance is also being maintained over New Year parties. In Bihar, security around the Bihar Museum has been bolstered. ADG Law and Order Pankaj Kumar emphasized that strict action will be taken against anyone found violating the issued guidelines during the celebrations. In Chennai and its suburbs, Tamil Nadu Police have deployed 25,000 officers, aided by drone and CCTV surveillance. The Greater Chennai Police, Tambaram, and Avadi city police forces are part of the operation. Among the 25,000 officers, 1,500 Home Guards are assisting the 19,000 officers in Greater Chennai. Additionally, 3,000 officers have been deployed in Tambaram and Avadi. Security will be tight at prominent coastal areas in Chennai, such as Marina, Santhome, Elliot’s Beach, and Neelankarai Beach, along with the Panaiyur and Kovalam areas in Tambaram. A complete ban has been placed on firecrackers in public and residential areas, and the use of loudspeakers in housing complexes and apartments is prohibited without prior permission from the police.
