PM Modi unveils education tsunami: 85 New KVs to empower millions of students across India!
New Delhi: (The Uttam Hindu): Following the Cabinet's approval to open 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Saturday that this decision will benefit a large number of students and generate numerous employment opportunities. In a post on social media platform X PM Modi said "Our government has made another significant decision to make school education as accessible as possible. As part of this 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas will be opened across the country. This step will not only benefit many students but also create numerous new job opportunities." On Friday the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by PM Modi approved the opening of 85 new KVs under the Civil/Defence sector throughout the nation. Additionally the expansion of KV Shivamogga in Karnataka was also approved to accommodate the growing number of Central Government employees by adding two extra sections in all classes under the Kendriya Vidyalaya Scheme. The total estimated funding required for the establishment of 85 new KVs and the expansion of one nearby existing KV is approximately Rs. 5872.08 crore, spread over a period of eight years from 2025-26. This amount includes a capital expenditure of around Rs. 2862.71 crore and operational expenditure of Rs. 3009.37 crore according to an official release. Currently there are 1,256 functional KVs including three abroad in Moscow Kathmandu and Tehran, with approximately 13.56 lakh students enrolled in these schools. To implement the project new administrative posts will be created as per the standards set by the Sangathan to run a full-fledged KV with a capacity of around 960 students. This means that a total of 82,560 students will benefit from the new schools. According to current norms each full-fledged KV employs 63 people. Therefore the approval of 85 new KVs and the expansion of one existing KV will create 5,388 new permanent employment opportunities. In addition the construction and related activities required for the development of infrastructure in all KVs are expected to create employment opportunities for both skilled and unskilled workers.
