Over 400 Flights Hit by Delays at Delhi Airport: IMD Flags Dense Fog Alert
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Over 400 flights at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) were delayed on Friday morning due to dense fog that caused visibility to drop to zero in some areas, severely impacting operations. Passengers were urged to check the latest updates with their respective airlines. Despite the disruptions, no flights were diverted as low visibility procedures were implemented at the airport.
Data from a flight tracking website indicated that as many as 470 flights faced delays. Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) confirmed on a social media post at 11 am that low visibility procedures were ongoing but stated there was no significant impact on overall flight operations. “Passengers are advised to contact the concerned airline for updated flight information,” DIAL stated.
In a separate update at 6:35 am, DIAL noted that while landings and takeoffs were continuing, flights not compliant with CAT III requirements could face delays. The CAT III system enables aircraft to operate under low-visibility conditions. All airport runways were functioning under CAT III guidelines to ensure smooth operations despite the weather.
