'Operation cyber shield' launched by Rajasthan police to tackle cyber threats

Jaipur (The Uttam Hindu): On January 2 the Cyber Crime Branch of the Rajasthan Police launched "Operation Cyber Shield" a month-long campaign designed to combat cyber crimes apprehend offenders and raise public awareness about cyber security. The operation which will run through January 31 is being led by Director General of Police (DGP) Utkal Ranjan Sahu and aims to dismantle the infrastructure supporting organized cyber-enabled financial crimes in the state. The initiative focuses on resolving cyber crime cases addressing public complaints and educating citizens on how to protect themselves from cyber threats. Hemant Priyadarshi DGP Cyber Crime outlined seven key objectives for the campaign including resolving complaints through the cyber crime portal and the helpline 1930.

The first steps of the operation involve identifying and blocking fraudulent SIM cards and IMEI numbers, followed by hotspot mapping to monitor high-risk areas for cyber crimes. The campaign will also target the apprehension of offenders by arresting individuals with outstanding warrants and recovering lost or stolen devices particularly mobile phones. Another key element of the campaign is promoting cyber awareness through public education efforts aimed at informing citizens about potential online threats and preventative measures. Additionally a database of known cyber criminals will be created to aid in the identification and tracking of offenders. Senior police officials across districts and ranges have been provided with comprehensive guidelines to ensure the campaign’s effectiveness.
