Modi Government's New Year Gift to Farmers: DAP Subsidy Increased to Ease Fertilizer Costs
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): On January 1, 2025 the central government convened its first cabinet meeting of the year, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where several key decisions were made to benefit farmers. The cabinet approved the continuation of the Prime Minister's Crop Insurance Scheme and the Restructured Weather-Based Crop Insurance Scheme through the 2025-26 period with a financial allocation of ₹69,515.71 crore.
In a major step towards supporting agriculture, the government announced that farmers will continue to receive a 50 kg bag of Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertilizer at the price of ₹1,350. To further assist farmers amidst rising global prices, an additional ₹3,850 crore subsidy for DAP fertilizers was approved. This decision is aimed at alleviating the burden of increasing costs on farmers.
These cabinet decisions highlight the government’s dedication to ensuring affordable access to vital fertilizers and providing financial security through crop insurance schemes, ultimately strengthening India's agricultural sector.
