Indian Coast Guard Seizes Rs 36,000 Crore Worth of 5,500 kg Meth from Myanmarese Boat Near Andamans!
New Delhi(The Uttam Hindu):The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has successfully intercepted a Myanmarese fishing boat, Soe Wai Yan Htoo, and seized approximately 5,500 kg of methamphetamine in what is being described as one of their largest drug busts. The operation, which took place on Sunday, also led to the recovery of a portable satellite phone from the boat.
The Coast Guard's Dornier aircraft, during a routine reconnaissance mission, identified the suspicious boat near Barren Island, about 150 kilometers from Port Blair. The information was quickly relayed to the Joint Operation Centre (JOC), which deployed the ICG Fast Patrol Vessel, ICG Ship Aruna Asaf Ali, to intercept the vessel. The Myanmarese boat was under surveillance until the early hours of November 24 when it was boarded by ICG personnel.
Upon boarding the boat, the ICG crew found six Myanmarese nationals aboard, who were questioned as part of the investigation. The methamphetamine was packed into multiple packages, and the satellite phone was also seized. Both the drugs and the phone were brought back to Sri Vijaya Puram for further examination.
The ICG has highlighted that the operation is part of a broader effort to combat drug trafficking in the region. They also noted a rise in the detection of Rohingya boats and Myanmarese poachers in the Andaman Sea. This operation marks another step in the Coast Guard's ongoing efforts to monitor and control illegal activities in Indian waters.
