Kochi(The Uttam Hindu):A major fire erupted at a godown beneath the South Bridge in Kochi during the early hours of Sunday, spreading dangerously close to the South Railway track and alarming authorities. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported in the incident.

The fire broke out around 1 a.m. in a scrap shop godown and took nearly four hours for firefighters and police to control. During the operation, the fire force successfully rescued 11 workers trapped inside. Nearby residents were evacuated as a precautionary measure to ensure their safety.

The blaze also disrupted train services on the Alappuzha route, leading to a temporary suspension. Train operations resumed after approximately two hours.

The godown housed a significant amount of flammable materials, and the surrounding area was densely populated with residences, including a women’s hostel, apartments, and houses. Fifteen fire force units from various parts of the city were deployed to tackle the fire.

While the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, authorities have confirmed that the godown lacked a Fire and Safety license.
