Lucknow (The Uttam Hindu): In a significant development in the Chandan Gupta murder case from Kasganj, the NIA Special Court in Lucknow has sentenced all 28 convicted individuals to life imprisonment. The verdict was announced on Friday, bringing closure to the case after six years.

The case dates back to January 26, 2018, when a Tiranga Yatra was being held in Kasganj. Chandan Gupta, along with his brother Vivek Gupta and other companions, was part of the procession. As the yatra reached the GGIIC gate on Tehsil Road, it was blocked by a group of individuals, including key accused Salim, Wasim, and Naseem. An altercation ensued, and the situation escalated with stone-pelting.

The violence further intensified when Salim fired at Chandan Gupta, critically injuring him. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Chandan succumbed to his injuries. The police arrested over 100 individuals in connection with the case, including the main accused, but many were later released.

Chandan's father fought a relentless legal battle for justice over the next six years. Earlier, the accused had filed a petition in the High Court, which was dismissed by the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court. The NIA Special Court's decision on Friday marks the end of a long legal journey for the victim’s family.
