International gangster Joginder Giong, wanted in 5 murder cases, extradited from the Philippines to India
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): In a joint operation, the Special Cell of Delhi Police and Haryana Police arrested international gangster Joginder Giong, who had been hiding in the Philippines while continuing his criminal activities. Giong, who had been deported from the Philippines was brought back to India. He has been convicted in 15 criminal cases, including five murder charges. Giong had been on the run for a long time, operating his gang from abroad.
The operation was carried out by the Special Cell of Delhi Police and Haryana Police after months of surveillance and gathering intelligence, which led to this significant breakthrough. Both Delhi Police and Haryana Police held a joint press conference at the Police Headquarters media center at 12 PM today to announce the arrest. Additional Police Commissioner of Delhi Police Special Cell, Pramod Kushwaha, stated, "This was a joint operation between Delhi Police and Haryana STF. We brought gangster Joginder Giong back after deporting him from the Philippines. He and his brother, Kaushal Chaudhary were close associates. In 2017, his brother was killed in a police encounter after which Giong fled the country. His arrest has dismantled the terrorist network."
Who is Joginder Giong? Joginder Giong, also known as Joga Don is from Giong village in Kaithal. He had come into the limelight for threatening Congress leader and MP Randeep Surjewala, suspecting that Surjewala had a role in the encounter of his brother, Surender Giong. Six months after the encounter, Giong started threatening Surjewala with death, leading Surjewala to seek security from the High Court. Giong was also accused of extorting ₹20 crore from Bihar's Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Yadav. He was declared internationally wanted. On December 30, 2017 Giong shot and killed retired police inspector Jai Dev Sharma at a retirement party in Panipat. Following this, Kaithal police had issued a Red Corner Notice against Giong through Interpol.
