India’s Passport Ranking Drops to 85th in Henley Passport Index 2025, Falling 5 Spots
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): India's passport ranking has fallen five places, now standing at 85th position, according to the latest Henley Passport Index 2025. This decline comes as Indian passport holders can access only 57 countries without a visa, down from 62 last year. India shares this ranking with Equatorial Guinea and Niger.
In contrast, Singapore has regained its position as the world's most powerful passport, offering visa-free travel to 195 destinations. Japan follows closely in second place, with access to 193 countries. Several European countries, including Finland, France, Germany, Italy, South Korea and Spain, occupy third place, granting visa-free access to 192 destinations.
Austria, Denmark, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden are in fourth place, offering visa-free travel to 191 destinations. Completing the top five are Belgium, New Zealand, Portugal, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, each allowing access to 190 destinations. The Henley Passport Index ranks passports based on the number of countries their holders can visit without a visa or with a visa on arrival. This ranking reflects broader trends in global mobility and international relations, highlighting how shifts in diplomatic ties impact passport strength. For India, the drop in rank suggests challenges in its international travel agreements compared to other nations.
